Hardwired into our bodies as a manufacturer’s reset is the physiological sigh. This is the method our body uses to turn down the stress we are experiencing. This simple breathing technique will calm the autonomic arousal of our nervous system. We do this naturally when CO2 builds up in the body. If you’re feeling stressed throughout the day and need to calm yourself back down, follow these steps:
2 deep inhales through the nose (without exhaling in between) then a full exhale through the mouth until your lungs are empty.
This will allow for our figurative and literal nerves to relax back into a calmer pattern. It can be done at any time, but highly effective after times of stress or intensity (workout, business meeting, before bed). Doing so after these stressful times allows our body to recognize we are no longer under duress and can resume our normal lives. Without this reset we can stay in autonomic arousal which leads to chronic stress symptoms and patterns. Reset yourself with a sigh!
